The Catholic Relief Services (CRS), together with Caritas Ghana have donated items worth $10,000 to the Catholic Diocese of Techiman towards the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in the Bono East region of Ghana. The items included 100 Veronica buckets and accessories, tissues, hand sanitizers, bleach, liquid soap, and visual education materials.

Speaking on behalf of CRS, Mr. David Pwaydi explained that the donation of these items through Caritas Ghana and to Techiman Diocese was meant to enhance the relationship between CRS and its major partners, Caritas Ghana and Techiman Diocese, especially in the fight against the global pandemic.

Mr. Samuel Zan Akologo, the Executive Secretary for Caritas Ghana indicated that the donation of these items to the health facilities in some catchment communities in Bono East is just a part of the comprehensive program of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference (GCBC) in the fight against COVID-19. Caritas Ghana, being the relief and humanitarian wing of the GCBC sees the donation as a significant step to support many vulnerable communities in Ghana. It is part of the Caritas Ghana mandate to also monitor and access the impact of governments’ efforts on the vulnerable, ensuring the safeguarding of women and children and ensuring responsible use of resources in the difficult period of the pandemic.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Catholic Diocese of Techiman, the Most Rev. Dominic Yeboah Nyarko, Catholic Bishop of Techiman, thanked CRS and Caritas Ghana for such a wonderful show of generosity. The bishop said that these items have come at a very opportune time when the diocesan health facilities and many other health facilities in Bono East Region have almost exhausted all their resources in the fight against COVID-19. He assured the donors of the responsible use of these items and encouraged all and sundry to keep to the safety protocols and support the global fight against this pandemic.

Present at the ceremony were the Vicar General of the diocese and Chairman of the Techiman Diocesan Health Services Board, the Diocesan Health Director and Management of Holy Family Hospital, Techiman, representatives from the Bono East Regional Health Directorate, representatives from CRS and Caritas Ghana, and members of the media.
