Prang is the district capital of the newly created Pru West District. The district was among the 38 new districts that was created in 2018. it was inaugurated on Marc 15, 2018.
St. Francis of Assisi Parish was created in 2001 out of the Yeji Parish by Most Rev. Joseph Osei Bonsu, the Bishop of Konongo Mampong Diocese. Rev. Fr. Peter Brenya was appointed as its first pastor. At the creation of Techiman Diocese in December 2007, Prang came under the jurisdiction of the Most Rev. Dominic Yeboah Nyarko, Bishop of Techiman Diocese. Rev. Fr. Benjamin Obour was appointed as the first parish priest.
