St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church - Krobo

History
St Francis Xavier krobo

krobo is a town in the Techiman North District of the Bono East Region. It is located along the Techiman-Wenchi road and it is about 6.5km from Techiman. According to oral history, the people moved from Techiman to settle at Nsuontam following a family row between them and the Dwomo and Adaati people of Techiman. Later on, the people moved from Nsuontam to their new settlement because of its closeness to the Techiman-Wenchi major road. Krobo has a population of 4,359.

The Catholic Church at Krobo started around 1933. Among the pioneers were Opanin Joseph Takyia, Opanin Kwasi Kuma and Opanin Yaw Tabiri. Accordingly, these founders brought the Catholic Faith to Krobo from Koase, where they worked. The first priest to visit the station was Fr. Peter Wildenburg,

SVD. Among the first catechumens to receive baptism were; Messrs Cosmas Dapaa, Kwame Peter and Matthew Amponsah and Madam Mary Mansah. Through the effort of Rev. Fr. Peter Wildenburg SVD, their first chapel was constructed and blessed on the 26th February, 1978. In 2017, Krobo was created out of Akrofrom Parish and was officially inaugurated on 2nd October, 2016 and Rev. Fr. Pius Frimpong was officially installed as its first priest.
