Holy Family Catholic Church - Kenten

History
Holy Family Kenten

Kenten is a town in the Techiman Municipality of the Bono East Region Ghana. It is an adjoining town to Techiman, situated on the Techiman-Wenchi arterial road. Kenten currently has an estimated population of about 14,610, and it is the second largest town within the Municipality after Techiman, the municipal capital.

The idea to start a new church at Kenten was borne by the late Msgr. John Oppong Baah, the then Parish priest of St. Paul’s Parish. He created Small Christian Communities in Techiman including Kenten in 1995. The community was spearheaded by Mr. Joseph Manu, Cecilia Addae, Agartha Owusu, Op. Kwame Krah, Mr. Raphael Bonna-Emah and many other Catholics living around Kenten. They met every Tuesday evening at the then God Bless International School. At the Time that Msgr John Boachie Gyan was the parish priest of Techiman, priests visited the Kenten Community for weekday Masses every Tuesday evening.

When Rev. Fr. Philip Sae became the Chaplain to the Holy Family Hospital, the Kenten Community was put under his charge. He visited the community on Tuesdays for Mass and on Sundays, the community joined the Hospital Staff for Mass at the Holy Family Hospital premises. In 1997, the community, with the help of the St. Paul’s parish and Rev. Fr. Philip Sae, the Kenten Catholic Community started their own chapel which was completed in December 1999.

The new Chapel was consecrated by Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi on 24th January 2004 When Techiman Diocese was created in 2008, Rev. Fr. Dominic Yaw Assuahene became the Diocesan Heath Director and resided at the Holy Family Hospital, Kenten was created out of Techiman parish and Rev. Fr. Assuahene was appointed its pastor. He began constructing a mission house for the Church. Rev. Fr. Andrews Addai took over from Rev. Fr. Dominic Assuahene in until he handed over to Very Rev. Fr. George Boachie Nyarko, the current Parish Priest in 2014.
