History
Akrofrom is a town in the Techiman North District. it as a population of 1,817. Akrofrom is about 8 km from Techiman on the Techiman-Wenchi main road Akrofrom St. Hubert Church is the first Catholic church to be established in the Techiman traditional area. According to the founder, Mr. Peter Asah Kofi, the Church begun in the early 1720’s (after the first world war), when, as a youth he was introduced to the Catholic Faith at Mampong Boanim in the Ashanti region where he had gone to work as a farm hand in a cocoa farm. Upon his return he was joined by his relatives Kwabena Anane, Kwasi Anikorkor (brothers), Adwoa Manu Anna (sister) and Paul Kofi Kuniah and their friends to start the Catholic church. At their early stage, they use to travel to Wenchi Koase through Atrensu to join the church at Koase for worship. After a while, they put up a small church building near the present location of the church bell for worship which was behind the founder’s house.
From this stage it started gaining grounds and increase in numbers as Aworowa and Krobo also picked up branches under Opanin Amponsah at Aworowa and opanin Kwasi Tain at Krobo. In 1996, Most Rev. James Kwadwo Owusu of Blessed memory created it a Quasi Parish and made Fr. Simon Gyansah Tabiri as its first parish Priest. When Techiman Diocese was created in 2008, Very Rev. Fr. John Efah Awiti was appointed as its pastor until 2014 when he was succeeded by the current parish priest, Rev. Fr. Isaac Kwadwo Adjei Boadu. It celebrated centenary year at Akrofrom in 1981.
